美國《紐約時報》指，陸委會主委王郁琦與國台辦主任張志軍在南京會晤，對緩和兩岸關係極具象徵性進展，報導並引述英國諾丁罕大學中國問題專家蘇立（Jonathan Sullivan）說，北京知道馬英九親中國，但不知道下一屆總統會會怎樣」，畢竟離下次選舉還有兩年時間，中方可能想利用現有窗口，嘗試一些機制並將其制度化，以限制未來的領導人。（國際中心／綜合外電報導）
