報告：2012全球百萬新生兒24小時內死亡

作者： 張子清 | 中央廣播電台 – 慈善團體─拯救兒童基金會(Save the Children)今天(25日)公布報告，指2012年全球有100萬新生兒，在出生後未滿24小時就不幸死亡，該基金會並因此敦促各國政府採取措施，預防新生兒死亡的發生。
總部設於英國的拯救兒童基金會表示，2012年全球有660萬兒童在5歲生日前死亡，然而其中絕大部份的死因，都是可以預防的。
1990年全球有126萬兒童在5歲生日前，大約是2012年的1倍，不過，「在嬰兒出生後的幾天內，卻因疏於照顧而造成的死亡，存在可探討的空間」。
拯救兒童基金會的這份報告，名稱為「終結新生兒死亡」，指2012年有100新生兒活不過人生最初的24小時，並表示如果採取預防措施，每年可望有200萬嬰兒可以免於死神的召喚。
